Anne von Freyburg
Here's something that might make you stop if you're wandering down Savile Row.
These stunning pieces are by Dutch artist Anne von Freyburg (pictured, bottom) and they will be on display at the Savile Row store until the Christmas decorations go up. The original idea was to show them during Frieze week, but we thought they fitted in so well with their surroundings and our own work that we'd keep them in the windows for a little longer.
Reconstructed Rococo portraits is what Anne calls them. Or textile paintings. They're made out of contemporary fashion fabrics and tapestry, involve a lot of hand-stitching (like a lot of our suits...) and are inspired by the 18th-century French Rococo painters Boucher and Fragonard. They are extravagant and highly colourful (also like a lot of our suits...) and Anne says they are an attempt to raise questions about taste, femininity, high and low art and the constructs of female identity. That and the excesses of throwaway fashion culture, selfies, surgical interventions and consumerism.
Come and see what you think.
